What does an Entrepreneur look like? EntreLaunch

Yes, I am seriously asking this question. Why? Because! Because, as a woman who runs my business, I’m sometimes afraid of putting myself “out there”, for fear of judgement. I don’t think I look like what most people would consider a “Successful Entrepreneur”. Do I know that sounds slightly ridiculous? Yes, yes I do. Can I help it? Nope. Not one bit.

I thought I might be crazy so I reached out to a few friends such as Rebecca Palmer, the founder of EntreLaunch and well… turns out I’m not alone. And, it’s not just us. There are quite a few entrepreneurs we’ve spoken to who don’t want to put themselves “out there”, because they don’t feel they fit the entrepreneurial mold.

In speaking with Rebecca and others, it became obvious that, we for what ever reason, we feel shy, not worthy of being on camera, hosting live feeds or presenting.

Googling “famous entrepreneurs”, didn’t help the situation. Images of Bill Gates, Richard Branson, Steve Jobs, Mark Zuckerberg, Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, and others populated the top row of Images.

Then googling “successful entrepreneurs”, netted only a slightly better result as Oprah Winfrey and J.K. Rowling were on the list. The stock images though…. don’t even get me started.

If this is what people expect when they meet me, then how am I ever going to succeed in business. The second I show up to a meeting I must be a disappointment. This can’t be right. So, I did as anyone would, I asked the interwebz, what does an entrepreneur look like?

So, what does an entrepreneur look like?

Some people where quite specific with their responses

… and of course my all time fave response:

After reviewing these responses and others, it made one thing clear – entrepreneurs don’t really look like anything or anyone is specific. Even though there were some specific answers, the majority of commenters didn’t see specific physical features but instead focused on core characteristics and values.

So, if you’re one of those startup founders or entrepreneurs who thinks you have a face for radio, or are insecure about your body… THINK AGAIN!

At the end of the day, it’s not what we look like that makes a difference, it’s what we do.
